Turon
Another Filipino snack you can make with this Saba or Burno bananas is Turon. Another favorite Filipino Merienda and street food, Turon Saging is very easy to prepare.
Split the bananas lengthwise, roll in sugar with or without cinnamon, wrap in Lumpia wrapper then deep fry. Some add sugar on the wrapper or in the oil while frying to coat the wrapper with streaks of caramel.
The most popular variation is the addition of a piece of langka or jackfruit with the banana.
(Fried Saba Bananas)
The only difference between piniritong saging and the above turong saging is they are not wrapped in Lumpia wrapper.
Bananas (Saba, or Plantain) are rolled in sugar then fried until brown or until the sugar is caramelized but not burned.
These are good for snacks or for dessert. They are usually sold as street food and are called “saging na barbecue” where each banana is skewered in a bamboo stick.
There is another banana snack variation where the bananas are dipped or mixed in batter then deep fried, which is similar to banana fritters called Saging na Maruya or Maruyang Saging. It is also a very popular street food.
